Hi, I’m Amanda!
I’m a physiotherapist, a mom, an avid reader, and someone who has spent the past 12+ years working to help individuals move better. I completed my Bachelor of Science at UBC Okanagan in 2010 and my Master of Physical Therapy at UBC Vancouver in 2014. After graduating, I moved to Edmonton and spent six years at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, working across acute inpatient and outpatient care and a wide variety of specialty clinics, including chronic pain, clubfoot, plastics, and cystic fibrosis. In 2020, I brought my family back to Kelowna and continued my career in pediatric physiotherapy, working in a child development centre, within the school district, and most recently at the Family Connection Centre. Along the way, hypermobility became an area of particular interest for me. The more I learned, the more I appreciated just how complex it can be to live in a hypermobile body, and how often people are told that their symptoms are simply something they need to “push through” or learn to live with. I’ve taken numerous additional education opportunities in hypermobility and related areas, and I’m excited to bring that knowledge into a practice where people can feel heard, understood, and supported. My clinic will primarily focus on adults and youth with hypermobility, with treatment centred around building strength and capacity, improving movement confidence, managing pain and fatigue, and finding strategies that work for each individual’s life. My approach is not about trying to make a hypermobile body move like a non-hypermobile body. It’s about helping you understand your body and figure out what it needs so you can get back to doing what is important in your own daily routine. I employ active techniques, such as in-clinic and at-home exercise programs, to optimise your stability and function. As manual bodywork can often be detrimental to a hypermobile body, it is not a large part of my everyday practice. I’ll also continue to see some pediatric clients, particularly babies and young children. My years of pediatric experience have given me a strong foundation in child development, movement, and supporting parents through those early years—and babies will always have a special place in my practice. Starting my own clinic feels like a natural next step after more than a decade in physiotherapy. I endeavour to create a space that is welcoming, individualised, evidence-informed, and curious. I want to look at the whole picture, factoring in all the areas that contribute to someone’s unique presentation. Whether you’re an adult who has spent years trying to make sense of your hypermobility, a young person just realising hypermobility may be a source of concern, or a parent wondering whether your baby’s development is progressing as expected, my goal is the same: To help you understand your body, build confidence in what it can do, and get back to the parts of life that matter to you.
